Fare-Collection Platform Modernisation
A legacy fare-collection platform had reached the limits of what it could handle. Working with Instea, LangOptima's software-engineering partner, the system was re-architected into real-time microservices that compute fares and flag fraud in milliseconds, across cities from the US to the EU.
The challenge
The legacy fare-collection system could not keep up with the volume or the complexity its operator wanted to serve. Real-time fare computation, fraud detection, and the ability to onboard smaller customers were all constrained by an architecture that was never built for them.
What we did
Instea re-architected the platform into a set of microservices that sit alongside a larger service estate. Fares are computed in real time, fraud is detected at request time, and responses return in under 100 milliseconds. The design opened the door to smaller customers and more complex pricing scenarios the legacy system could not handle.
The result
A modern, real-time fare platform running across cities in the US and the EU, with headroom to take on customers and scenarios that were out of reach before.
